Dayglo recorders

We had one of these (made from orange plastic), but it hasn’t been too good in recorder class at school, what with the usual beginner’s tendency to overblow. We’ve replaced it with a brown Yamaha version which sounds rather better. (I still have 2/3 of my old treble recorder – just in case the remaining piece of it ever shows up!).

I’m sure there is a Facebook Group “The recorder is a proper instrument” you could join! When I hear Michala Petri play it I have no doubt. I really enjoy ‘Esurientes implevit’ from Bach’s Magnificat with the 2 recorder obbligato not to mention all the other pieces which employ them such as Brandenburg 4.

My friend Heather Moger is a recorder professional (teaching, performing, writing textbooks). My memories of playing it myself largely feature a tune called ‘Eye Level’.

I remember being forced to play the recorder at school. Happy memories.
