the greatest monotone I’ve performed

I got the chance to sing this recently: the long note in the treble line which sets the letter ‘Beth’ in Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah.

Ever sung the Missa Philippina by Cardoso? No monotones, but the second sop line (I think) gets a lot of ‘Philippus Quartus’!!

I haven’t sung or I think heard of this piece, but if I ever come across it I’ll watch out for (and perhaps avoid) the second soprano line. It sounds a bit like the Missa Scala Aretina that I sang a couple of years ago.

I can’t remember the occasion, but I once had to cantor a Litany of the Saints, which required me to intone (on an A) “Saint N, pray for us” for each in turn of all the Scottish saints, of whom there are more than one might expect, while the choir sang Kyries around me. I was allowed to breathe between saints; still, it was an odd experience.
